Empowering Hands Initiative Successfully trains 24 women and youth in 3 skills

Empowering Hands Initiative (EHi) under its skills development program successfully concluded a training on 30th April 2021 funded by Privatization Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) under the Skills Development Facility grant. The 3 months project commenced on 7th December 2020 and ended 30th April 2021 under Ref Code: W2/02/14430268/2019. The training targeted women and youths in the community of Nalufenya A, Jinja district.

The skills training aimed at economically empowering women and youths in Jinja Municipal Council, Mpumudde/Kimaka Division. A total of 24 women and youths participants were trained by trainers from Royal Academy of Art and Design in 3 activities which included:

 i.             8 women and youths in the production of Eco – friendly cooking bags

ii.    8 women and youths in the production of women’s cross bags and other multipurpose bags

iii.          8 women and youths in shoe making.

The general objectives of the training were:

1.   To skill 24 women and youths in 3 categories of hands on activities that included; production of eco – friendly cooking bags, production of women’s cross bags and other multipurpose bags and shoe making to enhance their income generation.

2. To support knowledge development in the areas of business and entrepreneurship skills as well as sign language among women and youths. 

3.   To support government programs on poverty eradication among women and youth

4.   To train the participants in activities which facilitate environmental conservation.
